Clean Cookstoves

Cookstoves that use biomass and open fires are the primary means of cooking and heating for more than three billion people worldwide. Unfortunately, the use of cookstoves can be harmful to human health and negatively impact the physical environment. Cookstoves affect primarily women and children, and they are attributed to two million premature deaths each year. Cookstoves also strain the surrounding environment and natural resources, and they contribute to climate change. Cleaner and more efficient stoves are available and have the potential to improve livelihoods and meet clean energy goals. From this page, users can explore options for cleaner, more efficient cookstoves; create a thriving market for these products; and develop policies that eliminate barriers to distributing this simple, efficient technology.
